Default Securing Gear Packages?

What would be a good material for securing gear for shipping? Is bubble wrap still the best choice out there. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Depends in what you are shipping.

Hi...

What Indiana said.

The few things that I have to ship...I protect with crumpled newspaper...works fine.

Nothing too fragile, but nonetheless I want to prevent possible scratches or dents. Also, some things may break if you apply too much force. I also do that with newspaper sometimes.

Bubble wrap seems to be the material of choice for cushioning with lots of tape to ensure it stays in place. I've had furniture and glassware delivered both wrapped in bubble wrap with no problems.

Hi...

Those poly "peanuts" always seemed to work quite good...but I havent seen them in packages lately. Usually the "pillow"-type bubble pack is what I see now.

Yes, the poly peanuts were the best but most everyone has gone to the air pillows because the peanuts are supposed to be bad for the envirinment. The peanuts also have a nasty habit of easily receiving a static charge that makes them stick to everything and after opening your package you will spend some time removing them from yourself, the contents of your package and your furniture.

I'm not cetain about the environmental hazards. I used to grind them up into almost a powder and add them to potting soil or work them into the soil of my garden to help retain moisture. They're terrific for that.

I know but these usually cost more than the plain bubble wrap and I have no idea where to get those "peanuts". I think that bubble wrap is still the best choice.
