Default Simple Question - Pen & Paper?

I guess this is a simple piece of gear anyone should have but what brand and type of these two do you carry? For example, waterproof, ballpoint, plain pencil...

Forget toilet paper at home and you don't need a writing kit. Oh God, that is gross, which is why I never forget toilet paper and always carry my Rite in the rain pocket notebook and pencil.

I throw a couple of sharpies into my hiking bag. That way I can write on anything if necessary.

I have carried on of those little spiral bound pocket tablets with a ball point pen.

I carry the cheap pocket notebook and a pencil. Pencils will write on anything, plus they make better tinder than Sharpies and don't dry out.

I usually have a pencil, pen, and paper with me, but the Sharpie is an EXCELLENT idea! I am definitely adding one to the BOB's.

Journal and pencil in a zip-lock bag. You never know when inspiration will strike and some of my better ideas have come while nowhere near civilization. It also makes a handy way to document locations for places and things you find.

I know most will use their GPS, a cell phone, and a camera but I try to separate myself from electronics in the wild. I figure paper and pencil was good enough for Lewis and Clark. It's good enough for me.

People don't carry pencils anymore but there is nothing more reliable than a pencil because it won't dry out and it will survive dunking pretty easily.

Sharpie is a good option because it can write on almost anything and it leaves a visible trace. But I'm more a fan of standards pens.
