Default Sno Seal.

Somebody recommended I use Sno Seal to waterproof my boots. I was curious if Sno Seal had any advantage over any other type of beeswax based waterproofing?

Do some research somewhere. I have heard it depends on how the boots where tanned what you use to waterproof them, silicone or beeswax. Snoseal worked for me.

Thats a fact. I ruined a new pair of boots (as far as watershedding) by rubbing mink oil into a pair of silicone seasoned boots. Don't know the reasons why but I know it's bad.

Yeah, you need to look at the info that comes with the boots before you treat them. That said, on the boots that were compatible, the Sno-Seal has always worked great for me. I rub on a nice layer and then use a hair dryer to warm the lether and let it soak in.

YMMV, of course.

Some people have long-winded explanations of chrome tanned versus vegetable tanned, and silicone based waterproofing. All I know is Nevada is dry country and leather needs to have oils put back into it. I have used Sno-seal for 40 years and use it on everything but suede.

Put your boots in a warm window or near the woodstove.

I was under the impression that Sno Seal only waterproofs your boots. I remember reading on another forum that you also need to treat the leather, but it could have simply been an opinion not a fact.

I think it is a great product, and I swear by it. I have been using it for years, and it is so effective that I have never felt the need to try anything else for waterproofing.

Not that it matters one way or the other but I always warm the leather with a hair dryer before rubbing the sno seal on. I don't know why but some body must have told me to do it that way.

I never met a dog I didn't like. You may not like GUNS, and choose not to own one. You may not like GOD, and choose to exclude him. However, if some one breaks into your home the first two things you will do are, 1) Call someone with a GUN. and 2) PRAY they get there in time.
