Default Airstream Trailer

We've been thinking about buying a used, vintage Airstream trailer. I just love the way they look! I know they're touted as being the most lightweight trailers out there, so could a small one be pulled with a 4-cylinder car?

I still see a lot of the older ones on the roads today. You probably should check your towing package on your car and check the weight of the Airstream you might be considering buying just to be safe.

I have a 2009 Honda fit which is a 4 cylinder and i asked a tech at the dealer about towing a Pop up trailer and he did not recommend it and could cost me a transmission and more.

Airstreams are cool. Everyone knows that. But the insides are kind of confined by the round sides, and the interiors aren't that great. It is hard to redo them because of all their curves. They have less space than boxier, newer trailers.

Edit- I was watching a program about Airstreams this week. If you can afford the expentiture of time and money to make improvements it might be a great project. People have spent more than 10 times the cost of buying one to redo the inside.

On the other hand, the roofs tend to hold up somewhat better since they are not as likely to sag in the center, as flat roofs are prone to do. The interiors are generally high quality wood or plywood, even though they are somewhat plain.

I don't care if they have less space than a boxy, newer model trailer; nothing else compares to a vintage Airstream trailer! I love them, and for me, it's an Airstream trailer or nothing at all!
Thanks for the advice WillaMarie; I'll compare what my car can tow to what the trailer weighs.

Also, you want to check the tongue weight of the trailer against the rating for your tow vehicle. You might need an equalizing hitch.

We all love those Airstream trailers. For me, they conjure up a lot of memories of times spent at my uncle's campground when I was growing up. There was this one boy whose family had an enormous silver trailer. I assume it was an Airstream, but I'm relying on my memory. He reminded me of the boy in the Partridge Family. I had a major crush on him.

I love an Airstream trailer, too. We have some tall people in our family, so it's not a good choice for us. I have some fond memories back in the day when some of our cousins had Airstreams. We had tents back then, so an Airstream was a luxury.

I'm always looking for a tiny little beater to strip out and rebuild with some new systems and a lot of incredible woodworking.
