I'm always getting e-mails from these scammers though. It's generally the same ploy ever time. They will give me $XXX amount more for the item for my trouble, plus include extra to help with shipping to have it sent to Spain, or any other overseas country.
Sometimes it would be fun to "scam" the scammers, but it's not worth it to put in the extra effort.
Look up "scam baiting". Lots of fun ways to string these a-holes along.

I had a guy from england offer to by a $700 boat I was selling. It was a 30 year old sunfish sailboat. It would have to be shipped in a container! It would be cheaper to by a brand new one in England. Classic overpayment scam. I'll pay you $1500 for your boat (plus shipping) and you send the extra back.

I have an ultralight plane I'm planning to sell. It will be cash only, you meet me at my workplace (the police department) and when we're done talking I'll take you to my plane.

It is sad that so many people are out to hurt others. My email has been full of spam emails lately. My latest ones are from "youtube" about how my video uploads are in the top ten. I have never uploaded a video to youtube! I get quite a few of the African bank scams too... I thought those had stopped because everyone knew it was a scam!

It's a really good thing that your friend wasn't able to do the wire transfer when he tried to the first time. That would have been a really expensive and painful lesson to learn. It's so disgusting on how there are these kinds of people that try to take advantage of people any which way they can and still be able to sleep at night.

Every day, my email is littered with those kinds of junk. I just shake my head with disgust on how they are actually people who do these things and the worst part is that many do get away with this.

I don't think I would ever get an RV or any other kind of vehicle without seeing it first. My husband found a camping van in Florida and had it shipped to us. It wasn't necessarily a scam, but we have had nothing but problems with it. The first time we took it out, we were almost killed when one of the tires blew out on the freeway. They said the tires were in excellent condition. No tires are in excellent condition at ten years old, even if they haven't been used.

A question for the craigslist sellers, when you post your phone number on your listing do the telemarketers start calling selling airline tickets and looking for donations??
I know we do get bombarded every time.
I started putting a email to the FBI at the bottom of my listing as well as the FBI 800# hotline.

Those stories are scary but I'm quite amazed at some people who knows not to bite on scam strategies, just like that of Grandpa's post. I haven't encountered any internet scams but I'll be careful when I'm going to purchase something online.

I've also heard that you need to be careful of Craigslist. People agree to purchase an item and arrange to meet you halfway at some neutral spot to pick up the item. When you get there, they rob you.

When buying from the internet, i suggest you go to official fish and game or camping stores. If they are official, they will not try to scam you. But there is a general rule in the internet

I use a google voice number. Easy enough to get and toss away.
