Thumbs up Handicap mini van conversion

My sister got a new wheelchair van so I bought her old one from her. It is a mini van, but a very large one with the extended roof. My plan is to convert it in to a small camping van. Do you think it can be done?

Of course it can, gunny! Necessity may be the mother of invention but imagination is the daddy.

That is an interesting project, I could never do something like that but I applaud you. I think it will be time consuming, but I do not think it will be as hard as you think.

You can, I took a Chevy work van and made some modifications and use it alot when I want to get away for the weekend. I found the best place to find stuff is at U-Pull it wreaking yards watch for when they have sale days. I found a seat that folds out into a bed for $30 and many other things from custom vans. You may have to do some work to make things fit but its cheap.

If you set your mind to it just about anything can be done. What model are you looking at? A friend of mine had the opposite issue. He needed a specialized van so him and his brother got one with a great find shopping one weekend and converted it themselves.

As long as you know what is needed it sounds like the conversion would be the easy part. Depending on your state laws though it might be tricky making sure its "legal", I would look into that before starting the work.

Thanks, I will check that site out. I have removed all of the seats and old equipment. I actually sold parts of the lift to a local shop that works on handicap vans. I didn't realize lift parts from old vans were still worth a decent amount. Now I have some extra cash flow for the project.
