Default has anyone gotten a popup brand new?

I kind of wish we could but its just not going to happen this year. Right now we are looking at two and hope to head down this weekend to check them out. The Jayco Pop-up they are asking $3000 for it and the Coleman Santa Fe about $4000. Right now "brand new" is not in our price range so we are being very picky when it comes to what we end up with.

Carmen,
Do not be disappointed. A pop-up is the perfect thing to buy used. Chances are you won't have it that long anyway, and will move on to a different RV within a few years. Congratulations on your good judgement.

I have owned 2 pop-ups over the years. It's kinda funny. The first one I bought, I bought cause I liked not having to get up off the ground in the morning. it was a used Coleman, no bathroom, just a air conditioned tent really but we loved it. Drug it all over the country including several off road places. I hated to see it go. A hurricane ate it. We liked it so much we bought a bigger better new used coleman. This thing was a monster, bathroom with shower nice galley and 2 king sized beds, it was kinda hard to crank that big ole thing up, but we loved it. Kept it over 10 years and morned its lost when...you guessed it a hurricane ate it. This time around we went with a hard shell 18 ft ultra light. When we decided to shop this time, we decided we were gettin too old to hafta set up camp. Now when road tripping we just back up plug in and go to bed. It's funny I bought my first pop up for convience and eventually they became too inconvienant sigh.Hopefully when I retire our next camper will float,

I agree with ppine. Very good item to buy used if you pick carefully. So many people buy them and barely ever use them. Just be sure you inspect them well. Watch closely for signs of mold and water damage.

And if you're handy with spare time they usually aren't too hard to renovate if you really want to go inexpensive.

I can't emphasive enough- pay particular attention to the floor! Most of them are made of OSB and can get water damaged rather easily. Check for soft spots, particularly around the door and corners. Floors are very difficult to repair on most popups.

We have a 1979 Coleman we bought used and it still gets taken out on occasion.
First thing I would look for is "garage stored".

I do not really mind buying 2nd hand, I do this for a ton of stuff since I like to fix it up, but dang those prices. I was looking just to get an idea of what a new one would go for, totally not in my budget anytime soon. I think we are going to start small and build up, I just know I can not ground sleep anymore - the back will not allow it.

Brand new pop up trailers prices range between $5,000-$15,000. Most RV dealers would often offer financing options that may fit your current budget if you really want to get a brand new one. But, I'd go also with what ppine said. Nothing wrong with getting a used pop up trailer instead of a brand new one because you'll eventually want to upgrade. Just make sure to do your research and really inspect the pop up trailer before you negotiate the price.

Agree with ppine and Chad. Quite often after getting a popup trailer, the owners would want to upgrade after just a few camping trips. But no matter how slightly used these are, be sure to carefully inspect it inside out. It could really help if you got a friend that's familiar with using pop up trailers to accompany you to inspect it since he/she would know exactly what to look for. Good luck!

If I spend that much I would need to sell my car and I kind of need that. We are still on the hunt though. I think we are getting into a new stage in life that maybe others hit earlier, I am tired of working all the time and want to spend more time outdoors (even in a popup).
