Default RV Show

The annual RV show is coming to our area in early March. It's not a huge show like in some of the bigger cities, but there's always some trailers that make us drool. We also like to take a look at new equipment and get the show discount if we find something we want. What do you like about these shows?

Definitely the discounted gadgets and other stuff that they have here. I also like the fact that you can hang around and chat with people with similar trailers like you and teach you a thing or two about modifying certain parts of the trailer, troubleshooting, and even suggestions where to go for a trip.

RV shows are great fun because you can turn your imagination wild. The new designs always have some new ways to use space. I would never be tempted by a new RV because they depreciate so fast, and most people don't own them very long (average less than 5 years). There is no perfect RV. Most people go thru a progression of types trying to find the one that is most suitable. It is a lot less costly to buy a decent used unit which can always be sold to buy the next one.

For warm weather I like the pop-up trailers. A camper on a pick-up is handy on a truck dedicated to it. A travel trailer is ready to go and great for colder weather. For long trips, over 2 weeks motorhomes and fifth wheels are like being at home.

You're right about the depreciation on new trailers, ppine. We learned that from experience. It makes me ill to think about how much we paid and how much we could get for our fifth wheel now. But fortunately, we like it and get a lot of use out of it. But if I had to do it again, I wouldn't buy new.

Love all the trailers that I see whenever I visit one with my dad. Gotta admit, I would always end up leaving feeling a tad bit jealous and wishing to get my own.

RVs seemed like a contradiction to me for years. They are comfortable, but too far removed from the values we start with in the outdoors. I have 3 bits of advice for would-be RV owners. Bigger is not necessarily better. There is no RV that works well for everything. And most importantly, you do not have to quit tent camping just because you have an RV.

I look at some of those traveling homes and wonder how people afford to put gasoline in them. They could stay in a hotel more cheaply. It's fun to look at them, but I don't think I'd ever actually buy one.
