Like almost everybody, we started out sleeping in a tent. From there we decided to use our work trailer for camping. We'd clear it out, and use an air mattress along with coolers and even a "portapotty" to keep the wife happy. At least there was always lots of room for the gear. Had a generator so if it got too cold we could plug in an electric heater. Looking back, those were some of the best times.

Sounds like you loved it. I'd prefer a trailer over a tent for camping any day. My mother and step-father have a little land with a trailer on it. They were proud of their outhouse that they built. I didn't understand, but they loved their crappy creation.

We've done both over the years. Still like to tent camp sometimes in the woods where we can't get a travel trailer. We usually stay at camp grounds with our trailer and really love it.

Working away from home in remote locations has changed my thinking. I still like tents for good weather or up to a week. For long excursions and cold weather a trailer is really helpful. This is especially true after working all day outside.

I have lived in my wall tent for a month running a tree planting crew at 7,200 feet in AZ. Everytime it snowed I would have a tent full of people in the "Flagstaff Hilton."

Tent trailers (pop-ups) are suprisingly comfortable for weather above about 30 degrees.

My brother is having financial troubles, and is about to move into an Rv on his beautiful property in OR, and rent out his house. It will be interesting to see how he does in a residence that is 28 feet long.

Even with the trailer I still have many trips each year sleepiing in a tent or the back of the truck or rolling the bedroll out under the stars.

Hi...

I've never tried a pop-up, but it sounds interesting. My camping areas are usually in places where they couldn't be towed, though.

I've spent many a night in the back of a station wagon, too. Not too bad, but certainly cramped.

I've spent lots of time in an old 50s teardrop-shaped trailer, also...for a year one time...including one of the coldest winters Fairbanks ever had. That wasn't bad, once I found out how to keep it warm.

I now do mostly UTE camping, either with a pup tent, or a shelter half that's carried in my BOB.

I've also been thinking about hammocks lately. That seems like an interesting way to camp...hammock, under a tarp. Would need a sturdy one to hold my bulk though, as I've been getting rather "fluffy" lately.

Pop-up trailers are light and easy to tow, with axles flipped over and or larger wheels they can follow a truck anywhere.

My kids are camping in TN. for the weekend. I'm hoping they can keep the trailer heated since it has a couple of partial pop ups with it. It is a bigger one, but we shall see how the snow and colder temps of the mountain down there does with the tenderfoot of the bunch, my granddaughter's boyfriend. Should be interesting and I'm sorry I'm not going to be there to torment him. (Still thinking BigFoot coming through the pop up at 3am should be a good one).

I have heard stories from my uncles about their 'roughing it.'. I would sleep outside as a kid, but I would never do anything like whT my uncles did. I hate to say I am spoiled, but I won't even leave my house without my $110 steak knife set. While we plan on camping, it will definitely been in a nice popup or rv.

I still can not wait to get a popup, to me its like a little vacation getaway and I am always down for another place to setup shop. Do not get me wrong, I still dig the tents but sometimes with my back I just can not take it.

We have a pop-up camper. I still consider it camping though. We are out in the woods! We always get a wooded site at the campground. I never thought about using a work trailer. Seems like a really good idea.
