Animal's Eye Reflection

Has anyone wondered about what kind of animal is out there in the dark, when the only thing you see is a pair of glowing eyes reflecting back from your headlamp?

I've found that:
Deer: white
Cats: white and very bright
Sheep: redish and dim
coyote: orange

Have you made a list of ones you have seen?

i've found mountain lion tend to be green, my dog has one green and one bright red.

that is an interesting observation jason...I have also seen many animals in the dark with only their eyes shining, but never really so carefully that I observe the color and then identify the animal...will have to do that now...thanks...

I try to make out the shape of the eyes. You can tell big cat eyes sometimes, and to see a mountain lion slowly close his eyes while watching you is an unerving feeling.

oh..yes...isn't is quite an experience when the lion just squints its eye...as if trying to understand your purpose for daring to be that close to him...

I am much the same, I have seen eyes glinting in the dark, usually it is a deer or a fox, or if we are very lucky we may see a badger, but I have never really taken notice of eye colour.

I have seen glowing eyes in the dark and it creeps me out. I never stick around long enough to see what the animal is though.

I am always fascinated if I see eyes and I try to stay still and observe, but often the animal is gone before you get to see what it is.

I agree, he could be thinking that his dinner had just arrived! I think I would put some distance between us.
