| Energy Bars I am looking for energy bars as part of our food storage plan, but it's not something that we normally eat since my husband is a diabetic and we stay pretty low carb. What are some that don't taste like cardboard and won't break the bank?

| Do you want to make them, yourself? Or you prefer the ready made one from the shop? You can use carob powder, to make it chocolatey but I don't know how much they cost in the US. I wish I could send some your way.

| I mostly buy Clif Bars. They have a variety of flavours, some of them pretty good. They say that they've got about a year of shelf life, but they seem to last longer than that.
This summer, I'm going to try making my own bars for hiking. I've reviewed a number of recipes and just need to decide which to use as a template. (I never follow recipes. I always go off the rails at some point.)

| I was partial to the Snickers Marathon bars but Walmart has quit stocking them. I have had carry overs from year to year and couldn't tell the difference. I still prefer them over clif bars, my second choice and if I find a retailer that is still what I get. There are some very good recipes for home made as Michael has pointed out.

| Odwella makes some that are very tasty and I also like Kashi. For the most part I get what I can find on sale. In my humble opinion none of them are great but serve a purpose. Lots of time I just carry plain old Snickers candy bars. Best tasting to me but might not be good for your hubby.

| I love these as quick snacks on the go around the house but it is a pain to try and find any that are good for what you need on a trip out & healthy. I don't think my store carries Odwella but if its good I will try to hunt it down.

| Don't confuse the snickers marathon bars with the candy bars. The marathons are true energy bars, heavy on the protein.

| Well, these aren't energy bar's per se but they are close to that. Mainstay Emergency Rations; their 1200 calorie package comes close to the size of regular energy bar and they taste pretty good.
