I can't imagine being lost for weeks in the wilderness. It's so easy to do if you're not prepared or keeping your head on straight when you're out in strange land. I'm glad they found the bloke.

Hi...

The search began THREE WEEKS after she was reported missing? Then they towed her vehicle away before tracking dogs could use the contents to pick up her trail? "Dropped the ball" is right...!!

Incompetence of the highest degree...according to the article.

Glad she was found in reletively good condition, per the article.

How can we get her on this forum?

NOTE:

"Pathfinder", who is now posting on this forum, is NOT Pathfinder1, which is me...!!

Pathfinder,

Good post. Only people with mental toughness and a strong will to live make it that long by themselves.

I am relieved that she was found alive despite her mental illness, she was able to survive the cold for three weeks. I never loved having cats to pet at home but I hope to get an intelligent one like that adorable feline Miya.

My sentiments exactly, Pathfinder. That part about starting the search three weeks after she was reported missing by her family still leaves me so baffled. I mean, granted that she's been doing quite a bit of backpacking/camping, the mere fact that her family already reported her missing should be some cause for concern. It's a good thing that they found her alive and in good condition. Otherwise, it's very likely that the department may be facing a negligence lawsuit. At least, that's what I'll do if that was my family member.

While it's wonderful this person was found alive, stories like this always make me wonder about the unlucky ones. I know it's sad to think about, but it happens all the time. Guess it just goes to show how important wilderness safety is if you plan to be an avid camper.

She must have had a very good head on her shoulders to have made it so long on her own. I am not quite sure if dropped the ball would be quite how I described such a level of incompetence though!
