Default New Dual Survival

Joe T. is a nice addition to the show. Saw him in action for the first time. The guy is very decisve and very physically and emotionally strong. Stuck in the Attacama Desert, he and Cody L had all they could handle. Joe climbed to over 17,000 feet to retreive some snow and ice to melt for drinking water before they hit the lower desert. Joe gathered firewood and carried it to lower elevations. He figured out a way to descend some steep slopes with a parachute. Cody L complained a lot and acted old and slow. Joe is clearly a threat to Cody and his ego doesn't like it. This marriage was obviously not made in Heaven.

I enjoyed the show, I'm looking forwadr to seeing the new episodes. We'll see how well they work together. The marriage is obviously made in hell by the producers to cause drama. At least Joe T. has some credentials.

He drank urine. The new guy drank urine.

It was only a little, and he insisted it was just for a psychological boost, but he did it. And I've got to side with Cody on this one: If you drink urine and then survive, your survival is in spite of the urine. Because by the time you've been without water for a while, the concentration of toxins is way too high to be a net positive.

Other than that, I get the impression that they're being pushed to argue. Because you can see the moments when they get along and work together, and suddenly they slam their feet down and won't budge. I can only assume that it's because the producers are telling them to act that way.

Hopefully that bit dies down and they get to the interesting part, which is the bit where you see how they tackle the situation. If I wanted pointless, *****y drama, I'd watch some politics.

Most reality shows suck. You got to like pick and choose what you believe is real and what is done for the camera. Personally I get annoyed and it doesn't take me too long to change the channel.

I liked Dave better. While I like the show very much, I think too much editing is going on in it. It's entertainment and can't be considered educational.

I think what we're seeing is not Cody being belligerent with the new partner. I think he hasn't bought into the new production style. This episode was far less good content and more producer manipulated arguments and walking montages. The "argument" over drinking urine was an obvious shot at Bear Grylls. It would be interesting to see if Dual Survival picked up any of Man Vs Wild's former crew. The "argument" over firewood looked manufactured, too, given the tiny amount of wood and the concessions Cody used to make for Dave's strategies. I think the reason Cody looks like he's arguing for the sake of arguing is because he doesn't want to be arguing about trivialities at all.

I didn't get old and slow from this one as much as it was an old school desert rat in contrast with a GO GO GO military approach.

It sure did look like they weren't really surviving. They built a simple shelter but we didn't see them really in it. Then they argued about a tiny fire and we didn't see it happen. That looks to me like staged scenarios before they go back to the production campsite.

You have to suspend your disbelief a little bit to watch a show like that. I think the Chlean desert was a very tough place and they were glad to be out of it after only 4 days. I would not call it a reality show. Cody loves to argue. He teaches this stuff for a living and is trying to show the new guy that he can exert his will. I don't think they have to stage much at all. Joe's gungho style is what got them drinking water, a fire and a safe way down out of the red rock drops. To me Cody is coming across as a more of curmudgeon and less of a teacher than before.

Did it get them a fire? They discussed the second fire but we never saw it. We never saw it get dark and we didn't see anything overnight or in the morning. There is no reason to believe they actually had a second fire or spent the night in that spot.
