Right Age to Teach Kids Wilderness Survival?

I learned that all too well while taking my daughter to school and getting cut off one too many times that morning. Called the guy an idiot, and then my daughter started referring to other drivers as idiots. Could have been worse though from what I've seen some kids say.

Well when I was a kid back in the 80's, I used to go camping quite often even in the late fall and early spring. And we didn't have bathrooms and electricity like modern day campers like to have.
Anyways, I was around 8 years old when I started building and starting the camp fires. I had my own knife at 8 years and fishing gear and I knew how to wield an axe quite well from splitting wood all summer.
Now days if you handed your 8 year old child a knife and an axe they'd send you to jail. lol.
But I think the best age to start taking you kids on Wilderness Camping trips is around 8+ years old. The journey is much easier on them at that age.
