Default Role Models?

Who are your role models when it comes to wilderness skills? Who taught you the basics and are you still learning from them? For some it can be their father, for some the Internet, for some people like Nessmuk.

Mostly military instructors, I get a lot from books of several different authors and people from this site. It's an on going process, take what works for me and move on.

Hi...

No outdoor mentors, so pretty much learned on my own when I was afield.

Dad by a wide margin. He built rifle stocks, fly rods, and worked on outboard motors in the basement. He got us on the rifle team, taught us to shoot bows, and got us started backpacking on our own by the age of 12. He can still build anything, and was taught by his Dad and grandpa.

Like Pathfinder1 I pretty much learned on my own, but I learned from many teachers, through much reading, and from watching tv. learned alot thru trial and error, and I have learned a thing or more from the people on this website

Pretty much common sense and experience. Was in the Army but really skills there as a medic were not outdoor skills. Mom and dad never camped or did anything outdoor except dad would play sports with us growing up.

Daddy and Grandfather.....along with John Wayne, Teddy Roosevelt and Ernest Hemmingway among some other writers and action heroes.

Like others my role models were the authors of good books, things I've saw on TV, or stuff off of the internet.
