| The article does not have enough detail to conclude he had the wrong gear. Or the wrong training. Sometimes, when you're way way out there all alone, the worst does happen. It doesn't say he was found dead on a path under normal conditions. It says he froze to death during a bad storm. Yeah, it's possible that he wasn't ready, but it is just as possible that he was ready and ran into conditions few would overcome.
Do not forget that it doesn't matter how tough a person may be. Mother Nature is tougher. She can kill anyone.
