Default The thing you need most?

So what is the very important thing that you'll never leave home without in case you are trapped in the wild and you only need to help yourself (and no one else) to survive? I haven't thought of anything that's really important in terms of survival in a wild situation.

Hi...

This question gets bounced around quite a bit.

For myself, it is a sharp, sturdy case knife...that's my #1.

NOTE:

"Pathfinder", who is now posting on this forum, is NOT Pathfinder1, which is me...!!

An absolute must...but I think I'd go with a knife first.

Efficiency: When in doubt, empty your magazine!

Three things come to my mind at the moment: knife, firesteel and water filter. I almost always have these in my belt pouch, no matter where I go. Tiny flashlight is also there, but less important.

My survival kit. It's like that answer to the one wish question where I wish for a lot more wishes. Maybe a knife is the best choice, I'm not sure.

Match safe. Then a knife.

The most important thing to have is knowledge of what it takes to survive in that environment. The most important piece of gear would be a dependable knife.

Just my 2 cents.

What do you carry just in case I have forgotten to put it on my list of ten essentials plus my SPOT? Still learning here!

I hate that you said "no one else," because my number one thing would be my husband. He keeps all the necessary items in his pack. I'd go with the clean water, and lots of it.
