Default Unexpected Meal?

Was there a time where you had to eat something in the wild, maybe not to survive and stay alive but to just have an additional snack while heading home? What was it?

Outside of some barries no. Just to stop people from saying it, I will only eat barries if I am 100% sure what they are, haha.

I have eaten some cattails before. Not because I needed them to survive, but because you see all the people on the survival shows eat them and we wanted to know what they tasted like.

Nephew got a huge buck high on the mountain. Before we could get it dragged down to where we could get a truck to haul it, a fall storm moved in on us. Rain, sleet, then snow so we got a fire going and roasted the liver on sticks for a quick snack waiting for the storm to blow over. Never cared much for liver but it sure tasted good that day with my son, a son-in-law and a couple of nephews to share it with.

I eat fish all the time, but it's not exactly like I didn't plan it...

Hi...

I've eaten beech nuts many times, just because I like them. Then came the "insect" that also liked them, and no more edible beech nuts. Still, they were very tasty.

Also, the pink flowers of a type of thistle; and clover flowers, too.

NOTE:

"Pathfinder", who is now posting on this forum, is NOT Pathfinder1, which is me...!!

The last unexpected meal I had was when a 5 pound groundhog walked in front of me. Roast groundhog in the 4-6 pound range is very tender and tasty.

Day 6 in the Boundary Water Canoe area of MN, a small mouth bass hung in the shade of a tree and roasted over a fire.
