Default Where do you get your medical survival needs taken care of?

Where do you get your medical survival equipment at? I have gotten some really great deals at the Dollar Tree, and Big Lots recently. Most of the time it is just bandages and bandaids, but every one has to start somewhere.

I invite a doctor or nurse along. They always have good stuff.

My backpacking and our camping/auto first aid kits stay replenished from the household stock. The household stock is part of our inventory system so when any item drops below our minimum it goes on the shopping list. For a small town, we are fortunate to have a very large one and only grocery store in town that also price matches all the major outlets in the big towns around us. Anything on the shopping list means searching all the ads from the other towns and buying at that price locally.

Generally I buy discount stuff for the first aid kits. You have to be a little careful since sometimes the packaging is fragile, the adhesives not so reliable, and the sterile pads, for example, are more like heavy paper than gauze. I always check out the contents when I buy a brand I'm not familiar with.

You can often get decent prices online for medical stuff, but always buy from a reputable supplier.

Hi...

For my home-made kits, I may use items from home, from a supermarket or from a pharmacy.

For trauma packs, I generally use Cabela's. Other items can be found on-line, but usually are items that I don't feel the need for. (I don't carry Sam Splints or Israeli Bandages, for example).

I buy from most any store but always brands I am familiar with and whose performance I trust.

I'm a big fan of Ebay, there are so many bargains to be had on there. I purchased a quality First Aid kit for 10 dollars on Ebay. The price in the shops for the same First Aid kit was 30 dollars!

A pack includes the basics that are good for most situation, and then pack the specifics you need for those on the trip. Try to keep in mind what your group is like and what might be appropriate for their needs.

Taking at least a basic first aid kit when you go out on any type of outdoor situation is smart but it's also a really good idea to learn first aid procedures and learn how to make due with what's out there, too. Knowing which plants can help the blood clot, which will reduce fever, etc. is valuable information along with knowing how to forage for edibles.
