Default You can do WHAT with duct tape...??

Hi...

1) Saw something on a YouTube site by acident, and thought it was interesting. A duct tape "nut" was showing some of the lesser-known uses for the stuff. Would you believe that one of the uses was for tinder? Hey, I thought that was great.

Then, I tried lighting a piece of it with a paper match, and almost burned my fingers...!! It eventually caught fire, but in MuHO I'd rather try lighting a banana...!!

But, maybe some of you will have better luck.

2) If you've become disappointed with melted chocolate bars in your pack (or pocket), didn't want to heat up some water to make chocolate drink, and/or wanted a "faster" chocolate fix, just do this. Carry some instant chocolate drink mix powder, and have a tablespoon of it whenever you like. It works great...dissolves instantly, and tastes great...even the mix with those tiny marshmallows...(personal experience)!!

You can do WHAT with a banana?

Duct tape, as every hillbilly knows from soon after birth, is the closest thing to a toolkit you can buy for 4 dollars. A hardware store near me now carries it in about a dozen different colors, and some with flames or flowers printed on it. Some off brand stuff is pretty flimsy though, which while okay for flower arrangements might not be adequate for reattaching the exhaust manifold to your small-block Chevy V8. Gorilla brand is pretty stout, as is the industrial tape you can get from wholesale construction supply houses. Add a few zip-ties, and you're back on the road no matter what.

One time on vacation with my GF, the airline baggage monkeys tore one whole corner off our suitcase. A new one in St. Thomas was gonna cost about 100 bucks, and we were kinda on a shoestring anyway... So we found an Ace hardware store, I spent 12 dollars on duct tape and zip ties, and repaired it in our room that night. I told her, "It only has to make it 3900 miles, past the same baggage monkeys - how hard can it be?"

Not only did it make it home intact, but it was really easy to identify coming down the baggage carousel.

I was on a canoe trip on the John Day River, OR a little into flood stage. A friend cracked up his fiberglass canoe and sunk at the bottom of a rapid. My brother and I paddled against the current and paddled to the other side. We retrieved the boat with some difficulty and pounded out the dents and cracks with rocks. We let the boat dry out and then covered the damage with duct tape. We got the boat home going about another 35 miles in a very damaged conditon.

I can top this. I fell down the stair steps at my house, knocked myself out, broke a collar bone and an ankle. My husband called 911. They sent an ambulance and when they got me on the board to carry me out to the vehicle, they had forgotten their straps. Guess what? They used duct tape to strap me to the board. Hosptial personnel couldn't believe what they had done and then they charged my $25.00 for the two stips of tape. Top that. I dare you!

Rayne, I feel so bad about that, I'm willing to offer you a whole roll of duct tape for 25 bucks (and I'll ship it free!)

Wow Rayne - that is impressive and I can't top that! Duct tape is amazing - whoever created it is a genius. Some people think it's just a hillybilly tool - I say it's a lifesaver! Great stories everyone.

The only things a hillbilly needs in his (her?) toolkit. WD-40 and duct tape!

If moves and its not supposed to- use the duct tape.

If it doesn't moves and it's supposed- use the WD-40

2lb hammer and zip-ties optional.

Rayne,
Please be more careful around stairs. I am sorry for your injury. I would not try to top any one, but duct tape and old cardboard boxes were the materials on hand to splint my broken femur recently. Unfortunately the break was next to the hip and the splint didn't do any good.

Duct tape and corrugated cardboard make great emergency splints! Actually, the splints we used to carry on the fire engines were just fancy cardboard. We don't have much call for that anymore, since the ambulances carry those supplies.

Hi...

Why would anyone want to tape a duck?
