Default Do You Bring Pets?

I'm curious how many of us bring our pets tent camping? I'm assuming it would .mostly be dogs.

My dog is kind of foolish and young. I'm not sure he's ready but if I don't bring him with me he will never learn right? Tips? Or suggestions? Or should I not take him.

Mine goes everywhere with me. She is always on a leash except in a tent. I pick up after her in the campgrounds. I carry extra food and water for her along with weather appropriate wear when hiking as part of her essentials and a list of over-the-counter medications in case she gets hurt or has an allergic reaction. She is kept current on her rabies, heart worm and Advantage treatments. She wears a bug repellent bandana and gets monitored closely for dehydration.

The best tool for car camping is one of those screw in the ground stakes that I slip the handle of the leash over so she has a little more freedom. She likes her blanket to sleep on and has been known to sleep inside the sleeping bag when the temps dip below freezing.

Good luck!

Yeah I always bring my pup along. It depends on where we are wheater she is kept on a leash or not, she stays and listens everywhere but some places require leashes. You know your dog so just watch them and make sure they have all they need. Again, you know your dog so use your best judgement on weather to bring them or not. But they are a joy to have with you in camp.

I take my dog with me - a Yorkshire Terrier. He loves being out in the wild, his tail doesn't stop wagging with excitement. My son enjoys playing with the dog when we are settled at night. Taking my dog enriches the experience for me.

We take the dogs with us when we tent camp. We also take their crates; which takes space in the tent but give them a safe place if we go to the beach where they are not allowed --- I have yet to figure out why. We have leashes for them the little one (min-pin?/? mix) spends more time on the leash, she is a wanderer kind of, than the large (Lab/Med-large Terrior mix) does, he will stay with me and not go anywhere.

It is getting to where a leash is required in a lot of State/Fed parks or Dogs are just not allowed at all. THEREFORE, we need to be responcible owners and make sure we control our pets in the camp ground and the park as a whole. Meaning; if the dog is a wanderer keep them on a leash/tieout, if they bark stop the behavior quicklyespecially at night; if they even look at wildlife with a eye to chase break them of the thought! My lab mix did have that look early on and would get a pull on the leash and the phrase "Don't even let it pass through you puppy mind!" The funny thing was he would see wildlife after a while and look up at me and all I had to do is saywas; "Don't even let it pass through you puppy mind!" and he would just turn his head and go on his way behnd/beside me!

I only have a cat and she is indoors only, so she definitely does not go on camping trips. She manages fine at home (the neighbor feeds her) but I usually get the stink eye when I return.

I can see wheri t would be enjoyable as an owner. I love my dog. But dog's are dog's and there's going to be barking ect ect. I can get that at home. Don't need it at the campsite!!!

I think yo can only take your dog along on a camping trip. Cats and birds remain at home There are places where they are accepted and places they are not so before leaving on a trip you must be sure you can take your pet along.

My dog, Copper, goes with me backpacking. He does fine in campgrounds but I usually do not take him to campgrounds because there are places, especially in the state parks around here, where dogs are not allowed to go.

Of course dogs are easy. I have seen people camp with cats but it is more challenging.
