Default Tent Water Proofing

I've got an old tent. Good condition, but rips or tears. But thought I should add some sort of water proofing to it. Anyone applied any type of seal to their tent?

There are sprays made specifically to seal tents. You can buy them at any outdoors store and I think Walmart even carries it. I wouldn't buy the cheap stuff though, you may end up wet!

Kiwi Camp Dry I have heard works great. Snow Seal is another product I hear good stuff about.

I have even hear of people using deck water proof seals like Olympic and Thompson.

I think I would rather do something spray on than paint on. I haven't had any experience with waterproofing but I think it would be easier to deal with the spray.

Pay particular attention to the seams. If your tent's seams haven't been sealed or aren't taped, the water will seep through that. A tube of tent seam sealer will cost you about six bucks and is easy to apply. Pitch the tent on a nice day in your yard and apply it then give it enough time to dry fully.

If you have tears and rips and you haven't caught the tent on anything, the most likely culprit is UV damage. Save up your money for a new tent. You can buy patches in the meantime and even use duct tape inside the tent as a temporary fix.

I seal seams well but still use a tarp sometimes if a lot of rain is expected. It helps protect and shade tent also.

I'm a big Camp Dry fan. I've used it on tents, nylon tarps, leather boots, packs and the fletching on my arrows just to name a few. I love the stuff.

A man after my own heart. I also use Camp Dry on everything including leather purses and belts. I like the way it refreshes the leather and makes it look like new again.
