I give up on them when they no longer serve their purpose, which is keeping me dry.

When you start buying "Camp Dry" in case lots

When one of the zippers breaks

I give up when I fall in love with a new tent enough to purchase it. Then, I just can't see going back. That one becomes a shared tent for newbies when they don't have their own. If someone needs one and I see they have that "I love hiking" look in their eye, I give it to them.
