Default Giant pregnant python caught in Florida

The largest Burmese python ever found in Florida has been caught in the Everglades, scientists said Tuesday, and it contained 87 eggs – also thought to be a record.

“This thing is monstrous, it’s about a foot wide,” Kenneth Krysko, the herpetology collection manager at the Florida Museum of Natural History, said of the 17-foot-7-inch (5.35-meter) creature.

Scientists at the University of Florida-based museum examined the 164.5-pound (74.5-kilogram) snake on Friday as part of a government research project into managing the pervasive effect of Burmese pythons in Florida.

I have nothing against reptiles until they are dangerous enough to be a threat to an adult sized human. Seventeen feet is big enough to eat a Key Deer.

They taste like chicken. A 17 footer could feed a bunch of people.

One that big would probably be tough. Anyhow, I have this vision of a python hunt from the old "Wild Kingdom"....Marlon Perkins is standing there saying "While Jim wrestles the Burmese Python, enjoy this message from Mutual of Omaha".

I'm NOT gonna be Jim....

I saw this snake on television. What makes people think they are doing the right thing by releasing their pet snakes into the wild? Burmese pythons don't belong in Florida. Nature didn't put them there. Someone whose snake was no longer cute did.

Exactly and I hate that kind of irresponsible behavior. I also try not to think about pythons too much despite living in Florida; fortunately I don't live near the Everglades.

I HATE when people introduce non native species into our environment. Look at Kudzu. That stuff has pretty much taken over the south. This summer, they found an alligator in one of our local lakes. Since we have cold winters, it had to be this year.
