Default Barefoot Shoes?

What do you think about those barefoot shoe models? Do you think they are comfortable? Are they worth the money and what are they good for specifically?

I don't even know what they are......alot to be said for a good set of Red Wings though.

It's something along these lines

Honestly they look weird and not something I would see myself in, but I was just curious. What do you think of the design?

I know someone who had a pair and didn't really like them. He said they were comfortable once you got them on your feet but they always smelled.

Strap them on over a pair of boots and make Sasquatch tracks.

Yeah I have a pair of the KSO from vibriam. They have their places. I love mine for Kayaking as it is like being barefoot in your boat but have protection when you get out. They are a big plus there because their is not a lot of room in most boats to fit something like Keens. I also really like mine for hiking river trails, specially if there are a lot of water crossing b/c you dont have to stop at each one to change shoes and/or have soaking boots all trip. I did do the barefoot running for a bit, it was ok and you can feel a difference, however I have since gone back to shoes, I just like them more personally. They are really comfortable and when I first got them I would wear them around town even, however they did quickly start having the smelling problem that LoveTheWater mentioned and now I don't like to wear them around town b/c they smell so bad.

Barefoot shoes are the modern equivalent of moccasins. They pretty much have the same benefits and drawbacks. I've pretty much gone to a minimalist style of shoe because everyone pretty much has gone to a membrane (Goretex, eVent, etc.) in their boots and my feet do not tolerate them. Has its pluses and minuses but once I got used to it, I actually like minimal shoes.

YMMV, HYOH, batteries not included, pregnant and nursing mothers should consult their doctor, yada, yada.

I looked at a pair, but I have to have arch support and I just don't think those would work for me. However, they are very interesting to look at and I'm sure they would make a good conversation starter for whoever did wear them.
