I have noticed this same thing in my own feet. I was flat footed and have been using special insoles for about 6 years. Someone talked me into trying the minimalist shoes. I've been using them about six months and currently have natural arches again.
The concept is simple: Shoes prevent your foot from getting a workout and cause you to run on your heels which is not natural. Getting rid of padding and artificial support puts your feet back to the way they were meant to be, which is a complex and efficient foundation meant for distance running that evolved to perfection over millions of years. A good shoe should protect your foot from sharp rocks, but should NOT change the way you stand, walk, or run. | Exactly in the process now of replacing all my shoes even dress with barefoot shoes. This to include my dress shoes. Vivobarefoot makes a few dress and casual shoes with no hell left and no arch. Just haven't been able to find a dealer near my area.
