I personally have not had a tick since I was a kid. My dogs on the other hand are a completely different story. Checking for ticks every time is a great habit to have.

Lovefall, it's better if you cover them with something thick like Vaseline and let them back out. If you cover their breathing holes they have to back out to breathe. It's much better than burning them out or pulling them out. Although I've never seen anyone with an embedded tick's head, I understand it can happen and isn't pleasant to have removed in the emergency room.
