I've never used...or felt the need for them in past years. Anymore, I have to use them.
I use military surplus, white aluminum ski poles which are exactly the right height. They have carbide tips. I removed the outer, larger snow ring from the bottoms, leaving a smaller ring attached. They also have soft, well-fitting grips. For me, they're great. And, they were very inexpensive.
