Pepper spray?

Do you take anything with you when you hike to protect yourself from human predators? One of the women in our hiking group carries pepper spray that she clips to one of her belt loops.

For two legged predators I have some little pills. They are about 9mm in diameter. Most people in this area carry pepper spray in the grizzly sized cans.

When I'm afield, I may carry a couple of edged weapons.

Am also thinking about getting some bear spray, as I live in the 'donut hole' of black bear country.

Hiking polls and knife. But I carry both of those for other reasons, just could be used. If I were to carry pepper spray I would carry the bear size cans and that way could could stop anything threating me.

Like Grandpa, I carry pills in various sizes. When horse camping, I carry four sizes; .22, .30, .45, and 12ga. If backpacking, only the two larger sizes.

We are not often in an area considered dangerous. Usually there are lots of people around. I do have cans of pepper spray with us, but we seldom pull them out. None of us goes far away from the rest alone.

I have a knife on hand (though it's usually a tool, not a weapon) and I carry pepper spray as well. I will warn you all, however, make sure it's locked if it's in your pocket. An accidental discharge of pepper spray in your front pocket is not an experience you want!
