Default Tripod For Hiking

I love taking pictures when I am out hiking but there are a lot of times when I need to use a tripod, problem is mine is very heavy. Does anyone have any recommendations for a lightweight and sturdy one that the height is not tiny?

Well I am honestly not familiar with tripods, but some searching on amazon I came up with this one. It is two pounds and can go up to 39 inches tall. Amazon.com: Sony VCT-R100 Lightweight Compact Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head: Electronics

are you just using it to stabilize your shots or are you planning on using it for self shots? If stabilization is all you need it for, why not use a walking stick? Drill a shallow hole in the top of a wooden walking stick and screw in a threaded rod (1/4" is probably the rigt size) Leave a little sticking up and attach your camera to that when you need to keep it stable.

If you really need a full tripod, get one of the cheap ones from Wal-Mart or a camera store. since they're flimsy, they are fairly light.
