| How Much Gear? How much gear do you all take if you are going on an overnight trip? I usually try my best to pack as light as I can because I hate to carry all of that extra weight. But of course there are the essentials. One thing I DO take that I normally wouldn't is my cast iron frying pan. I can't do without it. What do you take? |

| for an overnight your gear should weigh no more than 20 lbs. for one person. get a solo cook set like this one from Coleman it'll save several pounds over your frying pan. 2 pots, 2 lids which double as frying pans. make an alcohol stove like this one stove, wind screen and fuel bottle fit inside the cook set. |

I just went on a two-night trip ... but my gear teetered near the 30-pound range, to be honest. It WAS a solo trip, tho. If my wife had come, my back would have likely been hauling 40 pounds! I don't like to make her carry much of anything. That way, we can hike and hike and hike and hike and hike. One of the best ways you can cut down on the weight is with your shelter. I was guilty of this my last trip (it was last week). I went ahead and took our "bigger" tent. It's a three-person with fiberglass poles. One of the $30 jobs made by Ozark Trail. For the life of me, I could find my solo tent OR my tarp tent. I think maybe I loaned them out ... but can't remember! Anyway ... Newanderthal, if you can find it, you should post here a link to your thread on "lightening the load." I did a quick scan, but couldn't find it right off. Good stuff in there. | |

| Looks good! I haven't noticed those before. I'll have to get a set. I hate to carry a heavy pack too so I pack very, very light. My pack probably weighs in about 20-25, maybe 30 if I take other people with me. |
