Default Para cord, what have YOU used it for?

I recently got this para cord bracelet, which i didn't get for the possibility i might need a few feet of cord but because i think its pretty cool.

But this para cord stuff is pretty cool, i'm about to buy some and thought it would be cool to hear what you all have used it for personally. I know there is a thousand reasons you COULD use it for, but i like when things so simple like a knife, can and IS used for so many things! So now para cord!!

BTW... this is my first thread and day on the site, look forward to chatting with you all!

Cory

Welcome aboard Cory! Para cord is great stuff. It can be used as is or with the inner strands removed. The inner strands make great sewing material for gear and what ever else you can come up with. I've used para cord for boot laces (with & with out inner strands), wrapped handles of hiking poles, knives, sheaths...you name it. I've even made a pair of Prusik hand cuffs with them.

Didn't use para cord for that....had to find something softer.

I have used it some times, but not much. A few times for shoe laces and to set up a makeshift tent on a rainy night,it worked better than expected.

The only thing I've actually used it for is to hang the bear bag when backpacking, every trip. The other reasons I carry it in my hiking kit are to use with a poncho or tarp to make an emergency shelter if needed, or for the thread to repair gear, making snares, etc.

I rig my rainfly with it to provide a nice strong ridge line. The inner strands can be used for fishing line or to stitch yourself up when you cut your leg open with your camp knife. I have a short length I use to practice knot tying. I fix stuff to the pack with it and some carabiners if I need to. And of course I plan to hang my food and stuff... It would be nice to tie up a girlfriend with, even if she didn't know she was my girlfriend yet.

I've never used para cord for anything other than decorating a high school prom area I was assigned to. It was great for holding up all that fabric against the bleacher walls. I have some of it left somewhere but haven't thought about using it for camping. I'll have to dig it out and try it.

As they said in the latest South Park episode, who would be the first to die from using it. I guess I've used it mostly for rigging tarps and tents and securing gear.
