Default Bangor Cave Alabama

I guess I have found a new interest in caves. I was looking up some possible caves to explore, and found Bangor cave. I do not think you can go there now, though, because it is on private land. The interesting thing about the cave, is that it was turned into a casino/night club in the 1930's! How crazy is that? Does anyone else know of a cave, that became something like this?

I believe Lehman cave in Great Basin NP was used by the locals for Saturday night dances and parties back in the time before it was taken over by the Park Service.

I saw a tv show one time where people were turing caves into homes. I can not remember where. It seems like it was out west somewhere.

I can not wait to go on our next trip, hopefully it will happen in July. We want to visit a few places this summer and pretty much any cave is on our list since its new to us. Any tips would be great from the experts too!

They had a bar in there during prohibition. Been through it severals times, it has always been on private land but nobody really cared until a few years ago. If you are in the Blount County are, you know there are holes everywhere that lead to cave. Right at the exit on I65 at Logan's store is a cave at the end of the old road. I think it is known as Bryant cave. There was another big cave down by Bangor but it had a good bit of water in it. Up near Hwy 72 from Huntsville to TN are many caves.
The best "unknown cave" was down below Pelham off 219 or something like that. That cave was fairly dry, pretty long and had a wide array of features. But that was almost 30 years ago, I bet there is a subdivision on it now.

If you sign up for a Survival School and it's cancelled for bad weather, you didn't miss much.

Minnetonka cave in SE Idaho, Lehman cave in Eastern Nevada, Shoshone Ice cave S. Central Idaho, Timpanogas cave in central Utah. If you are planning to be in these areas, let me know and I'll get you specific instructions for finding them.

Spending time with children is more important than spending money on them. (Don't know who said it but I like it)

There are lava tubes in south central Idaho where the communities turned the caves into bomb shelters back in the '50's. Quite elaborate too.

I've seen a few cave homes on television. I think it might be World's Most Extreme Homes or something like that, on one of the educational channels. Some looked really cool and had even been made quite luxurious. Hanging pictures on the wall is quite the problem, of course.

We toured a cave that was a bar during prohibition. I don't know if it is true or not, but the tour guide told us that when you are that far down below the ground in cool temperatures that you wouldn't get drunk, but once you went back out of the cave the alcohol would hit you like a ton of bricks.

There is a store in a cave south of Moab and another in Hanksville in Utah. Not sure if the caves were natural or hollowed out because it is sandstone and would be pretty easy to make a room.
