Default Rock climbing legality question

How can you tell where it is legal to rock climb and where it is not. Some friends of mine got a ticket for rock climbing in a No Zone. They did not see any signs (doesn't mean they weren't there), and there are other parts where you can rock climb. Does DNR have that info or...?

I suppose you can do a bit of research before going rock climbing, if you don't know who owns the area and what the legalities are...

May I ask why your friends didn't see the signs? Were the signs placed in an open area or somewhere obscured?

Yeah, get some proof and then go back to DNR and refute it. Of course if there were signs and they just weren't paying attention, then they might as well pay the ticket. A climber really need to make sure they are paying attention to things like that.
