Besides climbing on indoor rock walls, how else can you train to do the real thing? I would think it takes strength and stamina since you are doing a lot of pulling and pushing off.

Climbing doesn't correlate well to most "normal" workouts. Grip and upper back are most heavily involved, but like charley said, climbing(or bouldering) is the best way to train for climbing.
