Default Best boat for beginner?

I am in the market for a nice, most likely used boat. I would like something more than an aluminum boat but nothing super fancy. I can only afford to spend about $1000. I just want to be able to take it out on the lake and tool around a bit. What would the best type of boat and motor to get in that price range?

boat and motor for under $1000, it'll probably just be an aluminum boat with a basic outboard motor.

Check craigslist.

You might be able to find a used one from a boat dealer when they go on sale in the off season. Still you are more likely to find a good boat for that price out of the paper or on craigslist.
