Yes, I think I have done something that fits this description before. When my hubby and I toured Egypt a few years back, part of the trip included sleeping on a felucca for a few nights, which is an Egyptian sailboat. Picture a bunch of strangers camping out on the decks in sleeping bags while docked on the Nile and you'll know what I mean.

LovetheWater,
I find packing a boat much easier than packing my truck. Maybe you are bringing too much stuff.

My wife and I load everything we need into our two Nigel Dennis Explorer kayaks (about 125lbs of gear/food) and camp on islands in a nearby reservoir (50 miles long) several times during the summer months.

Took the Boy Scouts on several 50 mile canoe trips years ago. We canoed from campground to campground on the Upper Delaware River on Two of those trips and We camped on the islands in the Delaware Water Gap opn two trips. Also did some week end trips in those areas and on the Schuylkill River. Did an over nighter by raft on the Pine Creek. When I was a teenager I did a few short trips in the Pine Barrens as well. Like some one else already said it is sort of like backpacking but you get to bring a few extra luxuries if you want to.

The only island I've ever camped out at was Peanut Island in Palm Beach County, Florida. It isn't very far from the mainland though, and we paddled by kayak. It wasn't a very adventurous trip on the way there, but it was real nice once we docked and set up camp under the palm trees.

About the only thing I've done that constitutes boat camping is sleeping on my brother-in-law's boat out in the Atlantic. It qualifies as a yacht, and we slept in nice beds, so I guess that doesn't count?

Sounds pretty awesome to me! I would love to boat camp! You would have to be sure you brought everything along though or you would be paddling back out to shore. I love boats so I am going to check to see if there are any in my area.

I've done some canoe camping before. There are a few sites that I know of that are canoe in sites that we have discovered. The only way to get across is by some sort of boat, or to swim. It is fun, but unless you have a large boat, you can't bring much. If you are on an island you are really limited to the amount of firewood you can bring.
