Judy Ann, I said nothing to excess and I meant it. The best way to avoid a sunburn is clothing. I wear light clothing and a broad brimmed hat. A light breeze and white cotton is quite comfortable. You may sweat a bit (or because you are a lady - perspire) but that's good for you too.

My niece got off very lucky all during the summer months she is outside tanning when I would burn like Sarge would. Speaking of orange and not bronze, has anyone seen Trump lately? That man needs to lay off the tanning lotions.

I wear sunscreen (30+) and lots of it! I also tend to wear long pants and a wide-brimmed hat when I'm on the water, no matter how hot it is. Khaki polyester blend work pants breathe pretty well and don't absorb the heat too badly. Make sure you get under your chin and the bottoms of your ears so the reflected light doesn't fry you.

I can always dunk in the water and get wet to cool off. Took me a while to totally wise up, but after getting the tops of my thighs badly burnt on a raft trip I finally took measures. A bad sunburn can totally ruin your day (and the next few as well).

My buddy gave me crap for getting so burned up on this trip but you know what goes around comes around. His family did a bash for the holidays over the weekend and I saw photos on facebook from their lake trip. He had two colors, an overall red glow to him like hot lava and the little whites around his eyes from his shades.

I have very fair skin and burn up quickly. I usually apply 30+ sunscreen every 45 minutes or so when I am out on the water or in the water. I hate the lobster look not too mention how painful it is. Oh, yeah when applying your sunscreen don't forget the tops of your feet! That's one lesson I will NEVER forget.

I had been to many boat rides on a lake, on a river, on the sea but I don't get burned that easily. Perhaps it's because I've got more pigment (I'm from Asia, by the way).

I can burn and tan on my shoulders but my legs will be whiter than paper. I have no idea what is going on with that but if I can avoid the burn I am okay with it. I am debating getting a nice sun hat to help out too.
