Default First Time on a Kayak

I would love to try going out on a kayak. Do I need to take lessons first, or just go rent one and let the facility give me instructions? I would want to try a double seater so that I could have my husband help me, but he has no kayaking experience either. What would you recommend?

Wear lifejackets, go to a calm area, and have fun. There isn't much else to it.

Most places will usually give you the basics when you rent. At least the good places will. Go to a place on a river, or calm bay before going out into rougher waters.

Actually, it's very easy, but wear life vests just in case... As jason pointed out, most renting places will give you the basics and ask you if you have any questions. Don't be shy to ask, and tell your husband to pay attention as well, so you don't miss any piece of information.

Oh how exciting! I love kayaking and still remember my first time. Definitely stay someplace calm, wear a life jacket and enjoy. If where you are renting from doesn't offer lessons, don't hesitate to ask for a quick run down. Have fun
