Default Flipped

On my first outing with my jet ski I ended up flipping it over and killing the battery! At least we were on a friendly lake and a boat towed us back to shore, don't know what we would have done as we were 5 miles from shore and wouldn't have wanted to leave it out their.

You were definitely lucky, and it proves that it's always best to be with friends who can at least get help if its needed. Was it the jet ski's first time out or your first time out on a jet ski? As most accidents and mishaps do happen to novice jet skiers.

Yikes! I'm glad you were ok after that. Flips happen a lot, especially with first-timers. It's definitely good to be around friends or at least in a populated area where you can be found quickly if you need help, as in this case.

There's a reason most folks go jet-skiing in pairs, or have a "rescue boat" as their partner, and I think you just found out why.

Play a little game of "what if", with yourself. "WHAT IF" you hadn't had the help from a stranger, "WHAT IF" you had had to deal with things alone.

And whoever isn't riding is in possession of a cell phone or a handheld marine VHF radio.

I always wondered why those riding it jet skis always goes by in a group like the bikers on the road. Now, I understand why. It looks more dangerous than biking on the road.

Now I understand why those things are seen in "packs" on the water.

I find the noise they create to be annoying, and I don't care for the lack of manners I've encountered from a lot of operators.

I never leave without another person also and this is exactly why. I learned real quick on how to flip it back over. If you flip it back quick enough the water won't get to the engine and kill it.

A veteran of jet skiing once told me, he never goes out on his without his cell phone ziplocked inside of 2 separate bags, even though he never goes out alone. One rather scary experience a dozen years ago proved that it was a wise thing to do, it saved a life.

Here's to the adage: Safety First or Know the Worst.
