I usually don't trek very far,
when all around flying canoes are.

Hi...

Lots of good hints here.

Would your van happen to have a square hole under the rear bumper for inserting a trailer hitch? If so, there are canoe/boat/lumber carriers that can be attached thereon.

"Pathfinder", who is now posting on this forum, is NOT Pathfinder1, which is me...!!

A good friend of mine would say the following in a situation like this (but you have to listen very carefully - he would say): You take the canoe... and tie it to your car.

First response took care of it.

An alternative to the foam blocks in the kits are pool noodles (those neon tubes of foam that you hit people on the head with while playing in the pool). They're about $5 each and one will make several foam blocks to attach to the gunwales. Cut a foot off the noodle, make a split down one side, and slip it over the gunwale.

Ratchet straps or pull straps on each end of the canoe and you're good to go.
