Default Scuba diving depth

What is the maximum depth that a person can safely scuba dive to? I've heard of people needing to use that decompression chamber when going deep other wise they can explode or something like that. So what's a depth you can go where you won't need to go into that chamber?

I seen a documentary on the Navy divers just recently but can't remember what depth they can go. It blew my mind how deep they can work but it takes a lot of specialized training and special gear. I know it was wayyyyy deeper than the average diver can go.

Heres some good info What is the maximum depth a human can dive to
If your looking to getting into diving, your classes will cover all you need to know. Basically the deeper you go the less time you have at that depth before decompression comes into play. I'm speaking of sport diving. Commercial divers will go deeper and sometimes use mixed gasses to aid them. You won't explode but if you don't decompress you will get nitrogen bubbles in your blood...not a good thing! Unless you're looking into getting into commercial diving, decompression is not to big of an issue unless you're planning on hanging around really deep depths for long periods. I found most of my divers were around 30 feet or so. Did many repetitive dives without decompressing. Lots of neet underwater life to see. the deeper you go, the less light you have and colors start to fade, plus I found that there is less to look at as far as wild life goes. Of course there's wreck diving which can go pretty deep.

Haven't had a dive since the mid 70's but if I can remember right the normal safe depth with normal air is only about 150'. You can get all fancy with special air mixes and stuff but it takes experience. The trick is when you come up. You have a table you carry with you that gives you length of time and at what depth you have to stop to decompress naturally. Come up too fast from even a seemingly shallow dive and you might be off to the chamber. Camber doesn't always work and you may be left with a lifetime problem. Diving is safe if you respect what you're doing. Try hardhat diving if you want to go real deep. Good luck and stay safe.

Just saw that documentary about navy divers again. They can go to 300 feet, but special gases, equipment and loads of training. When doing salvage work, they use hard helmut and piped air when possible but if necessary, they can also go self contained and fight at that depth.
