Default Best winter hiking boots

We are going to do a lot of hiking this year in the winter. I have great hiking boots but they are not cold weather boots. Anyone have any recommendations for cold weather (waterproof) hiking boots?

I like leather insulated hunting boots.

My feet simply freeze in the wintertime no matter what type of shoes or boots I'm wearing. I think they stay frozen from late Fall until mid Summer, or at least they feel like it. I can wear two pair of socks and they are still like icicles.

Check outCamping Gear & Outdoor Gear - Outerwear & Outdoor Clothing from Campmor.comfor their line of winter boots. I personally like the Columbia Bugaboots but Winter boots are just like your other hiking boots,"Many to choose from" They are a personal choice that will be great for one person while they may not meet the next persons expectations.

Hi...

Can't give you THE answer, but a variety of such gear is available in various outdoor-type catalogs, like The Sportsman's Guide, for example. I recommend that catalog or web site for an indication of what might be available out there.

I have some newer cold weather footwear, but don't have enough miles on them to form a good opinion. Will you be using snowshoes or not?

For non-snowshoe wear, I (in the past) used boots with rubber bottoms and leather tops, and had a felt liner. Very warm and comfortable. I've also used white Military surplus mukluks with suede leather bottoms and canvas uppers. These also had felt liners, and were very warm. However, they did not have proper foot support.

There are also 'bunny boots', which are surrounded by an air pocket, similar to a Thermos bottle. These are all rubber, and can cause feet to perspire a lot. These also might be a bit more expensive.

I just came from a cold weather week of boy scout leadership courses. I wore sorels, but standing for half an hour during 7:00 AM flag ceremonies with temps in the teens the feet still got chilled. Most of the name brand hikers produced cold feet while standing that long. One guy, who works outside all winter swore by his Whites for both wet and cold.
