Default Blue Herons

Yesterday I took the kids on a mini hike along the river. We saw at least 6 blue herons. They are such odd birds. I looked them up and they have 90% accuracy with hunting. That is pretty amazing considering hawks only have 50% accuracy.

We have Blue Herons, Lesser Green Herons, and Cattle Ergets around here, All are interesting birds to watch. When I was in Michigan a couple weeks ago, I saw a bunch of Sandhill Cranes. Holy Crow, are those things huge!

Egrets and Blue Herons occupy a strip of wetlands east of the Las Vegas valley. Very nice to photograph.

You should come down to Florida. All over the place. I have two that walk through my yard all the time. It may sound strange, but I love to see them eat. You just sort of see a big bulge go down their neck, like a snake.

We get a few birds through here, although I think I enjoy listening to a whip-poor-will the best. Reminds me of NY. Really should learn some of the other birds around here though.

We took a bayou swamp boat ride yesterday and coasted to within 50 feet of a blue heron fishing. While we were taking pictures it caught a nice 10-12 incher. I'll post a pic after I get back home and get them down loaded.

I've never seen a blue heron. They must be beautiful birds, especially out in the wild. I'm looking forward to seeing a photo. A heron sometimes comes by my sister's pond, and I've seen it before. I think this one was white or gray.

The major rivers in the West have some good rookeries with lots of herons all at once. It is fun to drift by and watch them fish.

We took a drive in Yellowstone National Park one morning. We pulled off on a dirt road and saw Blue Heron. It was so interesting watching them. They have such graceful long necks.

We have 3 of them that live in our back yard. Its nice to sit there and watch them fish in the morning. They have it so easy, every few mins they are plucking a large fish out the water. Their wing span seems to be as wide as my car lol...they are HUGE!!
Ill record a video of them and upload them grabbing fish sometime.

The egrets fish right along side them with no issues.

Judy Ann has a great pic of a blue heron in her "journeys" album.

My pics from Louisiana are okay but I missed when the heron caught the fish, so i won't be posting them.
