Protection From Flies and Bees I have seen a unique hiking hat when I visited Australia. It has some little ropes reaching the shoulders to avoid flies or bees from getting into your face. I bought one for myself but it looks awkward when I'm the only one wearing it. What do you use or do to protect your face from insects?

I just have a wide brimmed hat but that does not serve the purpose. I just wave my hand in front of my face, but its not that effective either.

It sounds a nice way to get rid of those insects. I wish I had one. It may look awkward when nobody other than you are wearing it, but I don't care. When hiking, I don't want to look great. I want to feel comfortable and safe. Last edited by boomerang; 03-17-2010 at 02:52 AM.

I don't care much for the hats so I use the Avon Skin So Soft products and bug spray. I've not had any insect issues in a good while but I also try to avoid them as much as possible.

I also use the Avon skin so soft. I think it works better than bug spray. I'm not one for hats at all- especially with ropes on it. I also swat at the bugs and I curse at them too!
