Default Snowshoe question

Have any of you expert snow shoers heard of the Yukon Charlie brand before this year? I seldom go out but think I need a new pair and these keep popping up. Never heard of them but not sure if I trust a cheaper new name.
Anybody have any experience or heard of them?

Default Snowshoes...

I usually dont't trek very far,
when all around me no snoeshoes are.

Hi...

No, afraid I'm not familiar with that brand.

Have you tried Sportsman's Guide or Cheaper-Than-Dirt? They frequently have unused Military surplus snoeshoes...like the magnesium ones with the coated cable webbing. And their prices for that kind of 'shoe (for example) is a lot less than what you'd pay for other types of 'shoes.

The pair of yukon charlies I'm looking at started at $180 last fall, just before Christmas was down to $80 and now a local store has them for $45. The kid in the store said because no snow in the area, nothing has sold and they have to move them.

Lorax or Ponderosa, have you heard anything good or bad about them?

Yukon Charlies - The shoes are fine, the bindings are good, and the poles that come with them are mediocre.

I got mine at the end of the season from Sam's Club and they were a bargain.

Thanks LB, I was hoping to hear that answer. If I thought I would be hiking a thousand miles on them, I would spring for some Tubbs or Red Feather but my usage will be a mile or two a couple times a year. And my trekking poles have snow baskets so their poles aren't an issue.

I did a bit of shopping around to get some for my hubby for Christmas, until he mentioned that I'll be the one taking the girls shoeing, because he doesn't really like it, LOL. Anywho, the reviews I read actually said that the YCs were very comparable to Tubbs or Redfeather, not quite as good as Atlas or MSR. In other words, they're said to be a very good shoe for recreational/casual use. For $45, I'm tempted to pick a pair up for hubby and make him go.
