Tree of Heaven - Ailanthus altissima

I was hiking and I saw at least 3 Tree of Heaven - Ailanthus altissima. This is an invasive species which is all over the east coast. People have been planting this tree because it is "pretty" and can survive in poor conditions. However, they grow quickly and can destroy foundations as well as kill other trees. Not to mention they are stink bugs favorite place to live.

Escaped domestic plants are a problem in many parts of the US. If you see this tree in the wild you should try to kill it. It will resprout from the stump if you just cut it down. Usually an herbicide is required.
