Default Watch your step!

I went out for a walk today at lunch and I slipped. It was cold out but I didn't think the roads would be slippery. Of course I was walking up a hill so I slid a bit (down). I even had sneakers on with good tread. I guess lesson learned, always check the road conditions when taking a walk.

When I went out this morning my porch steps had a real light coating of ice on them. I about found out the hard way.

Even if you don't have cold weather, watch your step. I tripped over a crack in the sidewalk a couple of weeks ago and fell flat on my elbow and arm. My arm has taken forever to heal. Before I knew it, I was on the ground.

Well that is true that you need to always watch your step when out walking. We don't have to worry about having ice on the sidewalks here in Florida but sometimes they can be in need of repair so it's good to watch out sometimes.

Treads won't really do you any good when ice is involved. Other than some steal spikes not much will in all honesty.
Something else you should really be careful for this time of year is ice hidden under a thin layer of snow. Also for the love of God, if you fall don't stick your hand out in front. In most cases you'll just end up with a broken arm instead of a few bumps and bruises.

I got grandma several sets of "yaks traks". She kept one set in the house, one in her car and one in her office. Not as good as full fledged crampons but they work okay to just put on to get from the door to the car, etc.

Hi...

I've taken a couple of tumbles before...on sheet ice that was covered with new snow. The falls had enough momentum to split open the palms of my hand which I landed on (also landed on my cell phone once, which went kaput).

Now, like Grandpa, I keep a set of Yak Traks in the UTE, and a pair of Stablicers at the front door. Just another means of being prepared.

Stepped onto a thin sheet of ice on our front porch this morning. Ended up flying up to into the air, and then landing square on my butt at the bottom of the stairs of my porch, right in plain sight of my neighbors across the street. Dunno which one got bruised more: my butt or my ego.

I fall all the time, ice or not. I have learned the hard way to watch my step but sometimes even that doesn't help me out! We have ice on our porch quite often though so I am always careful.
