Hot springs have been the biggest culprits for the amoeba. A couple of cases appeared the last few years in shallow warm water in the deep south. Nose clips work well as a retardant if the head is to be under water.

BP magazine had an article about all the ways to kill yourself in the great outdoors. They had the amoeba wayyyyyyy down toward the bottom. It is just something to be aware of but not to fret over.

Here is another thread Marshmallow. This list will really get you worried but don't let it. The list is to make you aware of the dangers so you can avoid them.

I read about the girl and the flesh eating bacteria. I believe that she had to have several limbs removed. I agree that precaution is key although it always sounds very scary when you read about it or hear it in the news.

Yeah, Amy Copland is from the Atl area so it has been covered to death here. She lost one leg below the knee, the other foot and both hands. But she is out of the hospital, in rehab and expected to return home sometime this week I believe.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I won't live in a bubble. What kind of life would we have if we worried about everything we read about in the news?
