Default What month?

What month do you start to swim again (lakes, ponds, ocean)? We are going to go to Georgia in late April, I told the kids it would be too cold to swim in the ocean. Am I right?

My journeys album has pictures of my neice and nephew playing in/by/around the ocean in March. We built a big fire afterwards to warm them up!

Usually the beaches are still somewhat cold here in March (Florida). Some people don't mind so swim anyway. We've gone many times in April and the water has warmed up some. I'm not real sure about Ga. though. Good luck to you.

If you wear a wet suit, even a shortie or a pair of neoprene shorts it can make the early season swim much more comfortable. It is surprising more people don't try that technology in the south. On the West Coast the water is cold most of the year, but people adapt with good equipment. It is common to see people surfing all winter long.

In the 60s and until 1972 we used surf on the East Coast. We were in the water during spring break in March, but sometimes the weather was crummy until we got to south Florida.

My nephew in Rhode Island is in the water year round. He uses wet suits though. I have seen his pictures with snowdrifts on the beach.

Up in Northern Ontario, you're lucky to get in by the long weekend in May and then it's still really cold. The young kids don't seem to mind. They yell and scream but you have to force them out because their lips are turning blue.

I doubt I would swim in late April, but kids don't seem to feel the cold like adults do. I can remember times when I was a kid and my parents thought I was crazy for swimming in water that was way too cold for them.
